Inspired by one of my visits to Santa Catalina Island, one of California’s Channel Islands which lies southwest of Los Angeles. The building in the background is the historic iconic Catalina Casino which opened in 1929. "Casino" is Italian for "gathering place," so it was not used for gambling, but rather for movies, dinners, and dancing. It still continues to host major events to this day, including the annual New Year’s Eve Celebration and Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival.
